BIO
Jonathan Sadoff's passion for music began with his first guitar lesson at age five in his hometown of Highland Park, Illinois. Over the next several years, Sadoff began playing a variety of musical instruments, writing lyrics, performing and recording songs. His early exposure to artists such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Tom Petty and Pink Floyd inevitably paved the way for a classic approach to rock music.
In 2002, Sadoff moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music as one of eight performance majors admitted to the Studio Jazz Guitar program. While his acceptance to the Thornton School served as a launching pad for his ever-expanding study of music, including theory, composition, orchestration, arranging, conducting and performing, it also inspired him to explore opportunities in producing/engineering records and working with artists while still attending USC.
Staying true to his roots, Sadoff produces music the way he first heard it. His approach has attracted like-minded artists and industry professionals who have the same love for traditional pop/rock records and compositions. His talent attracted film directors at USC, and while he was still an undergraduate, he began writing film music and ultimately writing and arranging for USC Symphony Orchestra. With this diverse vocabulary of pop sensibility and traditional orchestral training, his arrangements, compositions and productions are a nod to older generations of pop songwriters and composers ranging from Aaron Copland to Jeff Lynne, as well as modern technicians like Thom York and Brian Eno.
Recent credits include the score to Good Time Max, a movie written/directed by and starring James Franco with Amanda Scheer Demme (Garden State, Blow) and George Agusto as music supervisors; The King of Central Park, a film written and directed by Max Winkler and David Gelb, that was featured at Tribeca Film Festival; The Merry Gentleman, a film starring and directed by Michael Keaton, that was featured at Sundance Film Festival in 2008; And most recently, Tug, written and directed by Abram Makowka, which is slated for a Summer ’10 release.
Sadoff has produced and written music with Bryan Scary and The Shredding Tears, Anjulie, members of Maroon 5, Burn Down The Mission, The Outline, Taryn Manning, Street Drum Corps, He Is We and Disco Curtis among many others. His music has been featured on networks like Fox and HBO, in trailers for Feature Films and on nationally run commercials for companies like Old Navy and HP. Sadoff has also written under blockbuster composers Trevor Rabin, Marco Beltrami and Christopher Lennertz.
In late 2009, Sadoff was featured on the cover of Keyboard Player Magazine and was picked by Hollywood Reporter as one of Composers Primed To Take Their Place On The A-List.
As keyboardist, guitarist and backup vocalist for Thenewno2, Sadoff, along with band mates Dhani Harrison and Jeremy Faccone, are currently in the midst of writing and producing the band’s sophomore effort—this following a year in which the band was seen on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Coachella and Lollapalooza.
